Teenage Pregnancy

The August 2008 edition of the magazine Cosmogirl has an article called “Pregnant on Purpose” written by Nancy Redd, and it has made me very worried. It says that 80% of teenage mothers are single parents and that only 1.5% of teen moms earn their college degree before they turn 30 years old.
But why are so many teen girls getting pregnant before they’re ready to support their babies? The answer could be very simple, Hollywood. More and more people are starting to think that teenage girls are copying what their favorite celebrities are doing, like getting pregnant at a very young age, such as Jamie Lynn Spears. They think acting like their favorite celebrities makes them cooler, but it is most likely ruining the chance to live the life and had all planned out for themselves.
But there could be another reason that girls are going out and becoming early mothers, boys. Some girls could be getting pregnant with their boyfriend so that he won’t dump them; it’s pretty much trying to hold the guy against his own will and that doesn’t always work. Sometimes the guy will get so scared that he will walk out or maybe he will propose and then you learn he’s not your type but since he’s the dad you feel forced to marry him.
I feel that some celebrities are trying to seem cool by having lots of kids, but the sad thing is I don’t think they know how much pressure the media is putting on girls. I think the media is glamorizing pregnancies so much that now girls need to get a reality check and realize that they aren’t millionaires with lots of nannies and designer maternity clothes and figure out the easy way like asking a parent that child birth is really hard. I think we should stop getting completely absorbed in stars’ lives because even though they make it seem so glamorous, usually it isn’t that way for us.

You are so right about the media craze over expecting celebrities. People have been having babies since people have been on Earth -- it's not that big of deal and certainly not glamorous. Girls need to live their own lives, not just try to be like stars. Most teenage moms aren't going to have DKNY or Prada maternity clothes or a nanny to take care of those 2 am dirty diapers.

Back when people didn't live as long teenage pregancy was common, but then again they didn't live as long. and you don't really need a college degree to be an important part of the world, bill gates dropped out of harvard.
